The Hippopotamus is an incredible creature. It is the third largest land animal. Here are some interesting facts about it.
1) It is one of the most aggressive animals in the world. It kills more humans in Africa, than any other creature does.
2) It weighs between 1.5-3 tonnes, yet can outrun a human, possibly running up to 50 km/hr.
3) It consumes up to 68 kg of grass every night.
4) It can’t swim, but submerges itself for 3-5 minutes at a time, closing its nostrils and surfacing at the end of this time to breathe again.
5) It is more closely related to whales, dolphins and porpoises than any other living creature.
6) It will rise and breathe without waking when sleeping underwater.
