I have no idea what happened to James Cook’s left hand. Perhaps I have interrupted a stunt to convert him from Captain Cook to Captain Hook?

Cook was an 18th century explorer who accurately charted New Zealand, and was the first European to chart the eastern coast of Australia. (The Dutch explorer Abel Tasman had beaten him over a hundred years earlier to discovering both countries).

Cook was murdered by Hawaiian natives at the age of 50 on his third voyage to the Pacific.
